Set almost entirely in a transport elevator that shuttles citizens between futuristic towns stacked on top of one another, a hellish scenario unfolds. Amongst the postmodern masses that squeeze into the public transport: cell-phone addicted businessmen clones, a child with a human brain as a pet, leather clad, militant law enforcers, and a 17-year-old schoolgirl (Luchina Fukisaki) with the psychic ability to receive visions from each person on board. Oppressive paranoia builds when a pair of convicted homicidal rapists join the ride and escape their abusive police escorts. Claustrophobic sets, a rabble of strange and detailed characters and bursts of excessive violence set the stage for an explosion of chaos in this psychologically charged dystopian sci-fi horror.
The brain-child of wunderkind director Hiroki Yamaguchi; who completed the film aged only 23 before it became the hit of the 2004 Fantasia Film Festival; Hellevator: The Bottled Fools (aka Gusha no bindume) makes its worldwide Blu-ray debut and is presented here in a newly graded master in a much-treasured special edition
