What on Earth is The Pocket Film of Superstitions? Well, dear reader – let me explain:
On the one hand it is a parade of weird and wonderful faces amidst a hall of smoke and mirrors. The less cryptic me would also say it is a quaint and creepy merging of folkloric horror, the supernatural and dadaist humour that looks at various superstitions through the ages.
The film features a wonderful roster of beautiful performers including a stunning array of first ladies of the silver-scream in
Caroline Munro (Maniac, Slaughter High, Dracula AD 1972), Lynn Lowry (Shivers, The Crazies, Cat People), Pauline Peart (The Satanic Rites of Dracula) Dani Thompson (Video Shop Tales of Terror, My Bloody Banjo) and Annabella Rich (Eating Miss Campbell) – as well as a who’s who of the current British indie horror boom.
Taking you on this journey with his toffee warbles is none other than living cult legend The Shend; he of Dadaist punk/post-punk bands The Cravats, The Very Things and star of cult cinematic oddities as Pervirella, Schemers and every British sitcom you ever did see. He is a most fine narrator indeed!
And as for ‘Pocket Film’ – well you know those pocket books we all read as nippers? This is like one of those, but a film. Make sense? Well it isn’t entirely supposed to…
